National Education is part of a holistic education. It aims to develop national cohesion, cultivate the instinct for survival as a nation and instil in our students, confidence in our nation's future. It also emphasises on cultivating a sense of belonging and emotional rootedness to Singapore. more
MOE has adopted a two-pronged approach in the cultivation of national instincts among pupils:
First, to develop an awareness of facts, circumstances and opportunities facing Singapore, so that they will be able to make decisions for their future with conviction and realism.
Second, to develop a sense of emotional belonging and commitment to the community and nation.
This approach is amply captured in the phrase "engaging hearts and minds".

- MOE Racial Harmony Quiz (For Primary Schools)
All primary school students are invited to participate in the MOE Racial Harmony Online Quiz at the MOE Racial Harmony website. Students answer 40 multiple-choice questions and the top 20 scorers stand to win attractive prizes.
Please strongly encourage your students to take part in the online quiz to learn more about the various traditions and cultures in Singapore. The closing date is 12 September. To access the quiz, please log on to http://sam11.moe.gov.sg/racialharmony/games/rh2008games/game.htm

The MOE Racial Harmony logo is in the shape of a heart, representing both the brotherhood of Singaporeans and the deep emotional, visercal bond that we all share. Red is also the colour of passion and energy, representing how we as a country are moving forward and boldly embracing our challenges and future.

- RHD 2008 Theme
The Racial Harmony Day (RHD)'s theme this year is 'Many Faces, One Singapore'. The theme aims to remind us that the multi-racial nature of Singapore is unique and racial harmony is something that we need to work together to achieve and not take for granted. The resource package will focus on revisiting and learning from past events, hence we will be featuring the racial riots in 1964 and the Maria Hertogh racial riots in this year's resource package. NEB has worked with South 5 Cluster schools to bring to you customised lesson plans to use with story cards featuring the racial riots in 1964, produced by Bendemeer Secondary School. In addition, for the primary schools, we have also worked with Tampines Primary School to share with you some drama techniques that would complement the discussion of NE issues. Please stay tuned! The resource packages will be sent to schools nearer RHD in July.

- Dialogue Session with MOS Lui
MOS Lui had a dialogue session with five students from JCs, Polytechnics and Institute of Technical Education (ITE), on National Education. The dialogue was held at the Singapore History Museum on 9 May 07. The vodcast of the session, conducted in English, can be found on www.mypaper.sg.
