Canberra Secondary School celebrated National Day with a difference on Saturday, 4th August 2007.
Aligned to the National Education (NE) programme, Canberra Secondary School organized the first National Schools Photo-Art Competition on the theme; ‘A Vibrant Singapore – Was, Is, Will Be.’
More than 120 entries were received from the Primary, Secondary and Junior College categories. The exhibits were launched by Dr Lim Wee Kiak, MP for Sembawang GRC, and the public was invited to view the exhibits.
The primary focus of this competition was to promote the use of digital media as a tool to create an awareness in our young on the way of life in Singapore. There was a hands-on workshop that taught the participants the different tools available in capturing and producing pictures that convey the feelings that the photographer wishes to depict. The competition also provides an avenue to engage and challenge pupils through experiential and participative learning which is vital in sustaining their interest in digital media.
Last but not least, the event aimed to develop and increase the visibility of photographic and creative graphics talent, in the form of a competition that culminated in a photo-art exhibition showcasing the winners works. Mr Sean Lee, a renowned local photographer was invited to speak and share his works with the participants and audience present.
