Memories of World War II

A National Education Commercialised Funpack Trail
by Greenridge Primary School 2006

Time Trekker Adventure 4 is a National Education Trail created by a team of Primary Four teachers from Greenridge Primary School to enhance the teaching of the History of Singapore. It was adapted from the World War II North WestKranji Memorial Landing Sites (Teacher’s Resource Package) and Wow Wow West which were both W5 NE Cluster Projects in 2003 and 2005 respectively.

Students ActivitiesIn order to enable as many schools as possible to benefit from the work done, this NE Trail has been developed into a commercial ‘funpack’ which consists of the Teachers’ Guide, Activity Cards, Answers to the Activity Cards and Tokens.  The Teachers’ Guide provides background information and suggestions for follow-up activities.

The theme as reflected in the name Time Trekker connotes an exciting journey through time, discovering, experiencing and gaining insights. The objective of the Time Trekker Adventure is to create a learning journey that is motivational and drives pupils to source out Student on Activityanswers on their own.

This package is the first in a series of experiential trails. It covers the landing site of the Japanese troops during World War II at Kranji Beach and Kranji War Memorial--the burial ground for many soldiers who had died during the war.

Time Trekker Adventure 4 was well received by both teachers and pupils and with its success, we have proceeded to produceTime Trekker Adventure 5 which covers Fort Canningand Time Trekker Adventure 6, which is an experiential trail on the Civic District. Both these were tested in 2006 and will be fully implemented in 2007.

As we believe that good teaching materials should not be kept away but to be used by as many teachers as possible, we are glad to share our teaching resources—the Time Trekker Adventure 4.

* Time Trekker Adventure 4 can be found in NIE Library, Reference Section.
