This logo takes on the appearance of a torch of fire. The torch represents the constant burning passion and drive of our young nation. The flame of the torch, represented by the people in my logo, are symbolic of the people of Singapore. Just as a torch draws its power from its flames, our nation draws its strength from its people. We may be different in our beliefs yet we are the same beneath. Working together as one, we are a beacon to the world.

The designs and colours of the four inverted commas represent the culture of each race. Yellow represents the Indians; pink represents the Eurasians; green represents the Malays and orange represents the Chinese. Each race makes a significant impact on Singapore. Removing any one out of the four inverted commas will result in an incomplete punctuation. This shows all races in Singapore are important, having an equal standing, regardless of cultures. We stand united on the same line for Singapore. Although we may have many differences (the inverted commas are of different sizes and shapes), we share the same identity as Singaporeans. The symbol stresses the importance of having every race group play their part well in order to let Singapore continue to enjoy the vibrancy and peace as a multiracial society.

The different colours symbolize the many races that add vibrancy and variety to our country through their different looks, languages, beliefs and culture. The colours flow naturally into one another to show that the different races mix very well without being conscious of their differences. The colours are integrated in an eye to symbolize the different races looking ahead together towards a bright future for Singapore.

Yong Shu Fen, Serene Ng, Cheryl Chun, Assumption English School

The four figures raise their hands in unity. They represent every person, young and old, in the four major racial families - Chinese, Malays, Indians and Eurasians. With combined efforts, we can achieve greater heights together. The heart symbolizes our love and concern for one another. We strive hard to work towards the prosperity of Singapore. Each of us is important as we make this world complete. We are like a jigsaw puzzle, combining together to create a beautiful picture.
